The Benefits and Best Practices of Engaging Veterans as Volunteers

When it comes to volunteering, veterans bring many unique skills and experiences, and also have some unique challenges and needs. In this interactive presentation, we'll explore the ways that engaging veterans as volunteers can benefit your organization. We'll also learn best practices for recruiting, retaining, utilizing, and managing veteran volunteers. Come join MVMA for a fun and productive time of networking, lunch, and learning how to grow your program's capacity by engaging veterans as volunteers!

A veteran volunteer will be giving personal testimony as part of the presentation.

About the Speaker

Julie Strassman is the Manager of Support Services for Bethesda Hospice Care, where she coordinates the We Honor Veterans program. Jufie grew up in a military family and served alongside her Army veteran husband as a DOD contractor on an overseas military base. She has over a decade of experience in volunteer coordination and is a former MVMA board member. She is also the recipient of MVMA’s 2019 Volunteer Coordinator of the Year award and a frequent presenter on volunteer management topics. Julie has most recently presented for the Network for Strong Communities, Send Me St. Louis, the Missouri League of Nursing, the Missouri Association for Assisted Living, and the 2023 Midwest Regional Conference on Palliative & End of Life Care.  She is excited to present again for MVMA and share her expertise in working with veteran volunteers.

Complimentary lunch will be provided to those attending. To ensure we have enough food and beverage, please register for this meeting by Friday, March 21.
